I need to take Fluoxetine (Prozac) but terrified of hair loss!?

I have been depressed for years, and I want it to stop, however I found out that this medication can cause hair loss. I love my hair, and I don't even know what I would do if I had hair loss.

It's actually not very likely at all, and it's also VERY probable that the Prozac will help re-balance your serotonin uptake so you will lose your irrational fears!

while some hairloss has been reported in testing, it is NOT common, but because it happened in a small percentage of those tested, it has to be reported as a possible side effect. Personally, I took Prozac for years, never lost any hair because of it, I still have a very thick healthy head full of hair, in fact I could stand to lose some.


So if your doctor feels the Prozac with help you, take it. If you notice side effects you don't like, then there are other drugs you can try too. But don't let the potential (not the certainty) of side effects stop you from getting the medications that might benefit you. I hope you are also seeking therapy or counselling, medications are only half the answer in curing depression.
