Cat has itchy/dry skin?

My cat has been an indoor cat and has never been outside except to take him to the vet for his yearly shots. Recently about 3 weeks ago, he has started excessively itching/scratching his legs, and under his neck. He has lost hair on the under part of his tail by his body. And the back of his hind legs has a few small patches of hair loss. He is always biting and scratching at his fur. I tried changing his food, and litter and have not seen improvement other than his tail is starting to grow hair back again. I also rinsed him in the bathtub thinking he may have just had dry skin. He does not have fleas, or any other type of bug. I was thinking that he may just be itchy because he is growing in his winter fur? Does anyone know what may be causing this, or do you think I should take him to the vet?Cat has itchy/dry skin?
My cat has dry skin also, and I think it was because of me giving him baths with regular shampoo. He had dandrif and LOVES when I brush him hard because he must itch terribly.

He started licking his belly until he had no fur left, so we took him to the vet and they gave us some medical cream to put on his belly to see if he would stop, and he would just lick the cream off. After trying this, the vet said it was behavioral, and he would just have a bare belly from now on. He stopped licking his belly, but he still has a bare belly, and he is just as happy as can be.

I also got this shampoo called ';Scratchy Cat,'; at Petco. It helps my kitty tremendously, and his coat is so fluffy afterwards! My cat enjoys baths, which is weird, but I give him a bath with the special shampoo about once every 2 months. He loves it, and feels and looks like a new cat afterwards! You should try this! Also, brush him frequently, because that will help with the itchiness.Cat has itchy/dry skin?
I googled ';dry skin cat'; and got this: http://cats.lovetoknow.com/Dry_Skin_Cat

I'd say yes - he need to see a vet for this.

If you feed him dry food, it is very high carb (cats do not normally eat carbs at all - it's just filler). Switching to canned will help. Some dry food is very oily (nutra is) and is not as bad as others.
PROBABLY FEEDING HIM CRAP FOOD
