I have had a problem with bulimia for about three years. There was a time that I was purging every night, but this was about two years ago and I never purged a ton. I never go to the point where I was vomiting blood or anything. For the past year or so, I have rarely purged. It took me about six months to cut back to two-three times a week, and now I maybe purge two times a month. I have also suffered from problems with depression for years, and I regularly see a psychiatrist for medication that controls both my purging and my emotions.
My medication dose was recently increased because I was still having problems with depression. I then tried to donate blood about three weeks ago, and my resting heart rate was 102. I then stopped taking the higher dose and returned to what I was originally taking. Today, my heart rate was still 97. When I saw my psychiatrist today, he said that an increased heart rate rarely occurs with the medication I take, Prozac. I am now wondering if my increased heart rate could be related to some long-term effect of bulimia.
I have also had problems with hair loss, fatigue, and shortness of breath since I began purging three years ago. I am wondering if there could be a problem with my thyroid or something that is causing my side effects. I have done the best I can to stop my bingeing and purging, and today I am no longer considered bulimic because I only throw up under extreme stress about twice a month.
I can't see my psychiatrist for two weeks because he is completely booked on appointments. I got a blood test today, but I am anxious about the results. Should I see a medical doctor about my health problems, or will waiting two weeks not hurt me?Long-term effects of bulimia-have I hurt myself for good?
Have a look at this book, it was written just for you.
