Can chronic pain turn into Fibro????? Any advice!!!?

Been diagnosed with chronic pain and chronic whiplash, due to a bad car accident nearly 4 years ago. (Not my fault. The old fossil tried to pull a u-turn on a divided highway, without looking.) I t-boned a car at 50-55 mph. with my hand on the horn/airbag. The airbag went off on the palm of my hand pushing my arm straight back, while the rest of my body went forward. I wound up with herniated discs in my neck and nerve root compression that affects my right arm (burning, numbness, tingling nonstop for almost 4 years). I have muscle spasms all the time in my back and neck. I will get SEVERE headaches. (My last severe headache took 3 darvocets, 2 hydrocodone, and 1.5 muscle relaxers in 6 hours to enable me to function.. I could finally get up out of bed and put the 2 babies to bed. I called the pain med. doctor, and he just told me to take more.) These aren't migraines. My muscles will be so tight that they feel bruised. I have 4 children (2 very young) to watch over. I have to be able to drive a car, and function. I went to a pain management doctor, and for that I'm grateful. I know that when I have a severe headache, I can get rid of the pain. I don't want to take the meds all the time, because I need to function, and am afraid of getting hooked. Most of the time I live with constant pain.

Has anybody ever had their chronic pain turn in fibro?? Sometimes I'm so sore, I just don't want to be touched. Sometimes I feel like I've got the flu. I still hurt, on the rare occasion I can actually sit/lay down/relax. I hurt so bad, I won't sleep in my bed. Laying down aggravates it. I sleep semi-sitting on the couch. I bought a new mattress and pillow, doesn't work. I can't afford to hire help for the children, so I must carry them, etc. I know this affects my back muscles.

Has any one tried different meds that I could ask my doctor about? Feel free to leave suggestions, of positive results with meds. I am leary about getting steroid injections. I heard that it can affect the bone. I am also very sensitive with steroids. I do have asthma. I was on long term steroids, and ended up with hair loss, a bloody nose multiple x's a day, no female cycles. I don't know if the steroid shots could have the same effect. Does anybody know of an injection that caused long term numbness in the neck and back?

Doctors said it wasn't worth surgery. I did have one h*ll of a time getting a diagnosis. Nobody wanted to see be because it was due to an auto accident. Yes I was told it was not nice to sue someone so they weren't going to be nice and see me! Lawsuit was a joke. All I wound up with was money for the lawyer and health insurance company. NOW, after the lawsuit, the doctors tell me it has been too long, and even if I had surgery, it wouldn't stop the arm pain. Can chronic pain turn into Fibro????? Any advice!!!?
I cannot speak as to what your diagnosis is, but I have Fibromyalgia, and here is what I have tried, and some other suggestions for you:

Cymbalta: an SNRI antidepressant, also used to treat diabetic neuropathy and fibro-works wonders on depression, not so much for fibro pain.

Lyrica-anticonvulsant indicated for fibro treatment-useless

Opiate pain meds-for fibro, they aren't effective for me-however, I have only been prescribed short-acting, combination products like Darvocet (useless), Tylenol #3, Vicodin, Percocet, etc. You end up having to take so many to achieve constant pain relief (if you even end up getting any from them) that your liver is put under great stress, due to the toxicity of acetaminophen. I have taken OxyContin a couple of times, works pretty well, but good luck getting that one; I also took a very low dose of morphine once, and it made me violently ill, no pain relief

Muscle Relaxers: tried all of them-only one that helps is Klonopin

NSAIDs-Since fibromyalgia is not true inflammation, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc are not effective

Some other medications commonly prescribed for fibro are a number of different types of antidepressants (serotonin modulates pain), such as tricyclics (nope), SSRIs (nope); anti-seizure drugs, such as Lamictal, Topamax and Neurontin (didn't work for moi!). The list goes on and on. There is no one med I can suggest for you-fibro is such a difficult condition to treat, everybody has their own opinions on what meds work, which ones don't-its probably a combination of a couple ones that treat different aspects of the disorder that will help. Oh, btw, there is a new med that just came out, its an SNRI specifically indicated to treat fibro, called Savella. Apparently, it is quite good, bettter than Cymbalta and Lyrica. I might try that one. Hope this helps-email me if you need any more info! Can chronic pain turn into Fibro????? Any advice!!!?
Nope, none...
From what I understand about fibromyalgia you can get it from not being very active. So you may end up getting it. You do have some mighty bad things going on, yet I do believe there is a way to help you that the dr.'s don't have or won't use. I would like to work with you for a week or so to see if it is possible to get those muscles released for you. When you are in an auto accident like that, the muscles are pulled out and when they get to the very end and are pulled tight, they lock there and while they are locked there they are going to hurt like hell. You can get them unlocked. I have had it done to me and I am willing to share with you if you like. Just drop me a line and I'll get some of the first things off to you. Oh, no, this isn't a scheme of any kind and I am not asking anything for it either. I just want to help someone because I was lucky enough to have found the way to that better health.
