Can scabs/bites on cats cause hair loss?

one of my cats was a stray so i took him home. he has never been a friendly cat but surprisingly he has got worse, at the start i got him in the cat carrier ok but now he flips out like you wouldn't believe, its almost imposable thats why i havent taken him to the vet yet. I cant even pat him, he gets really mad %26amp; attacks.

He is a very fat boy %26amp; lazy, he gets knots in his hair because he doesnt wash. i seen something on his tail that looked like a knot of hair like the rest of them, i just thought he has stopped cleaning his tail now too, but the hair has slowly fallen off and now i see there is a bare patch on his tail with a little sore.

it looks very clean %26amp; not infected. looks like its healing good, but is the hair loss normal or should i be worried. Can scabs/bites on cats cause hair loss?
If the cat is getting mats (knots) his skin may be irritated if they are close to the skin. If you can get him to the vet they can cut or shave them off, that will help him feel better, otherwise they could get worse. Since mats can get too close to the skin some cats will pull on them trying to get them off that could explain some of the hair loss and the sore. Try giving him some catnip maybe that will mellow him out for the trip to the vet.
