Is yasmin a good birth control pill for high testerone levels?

My doctor prescribed yasmin for my high testosterone levels which is causing me to have horrible acne, hair loss, %26amp; hair on my chin, and weight re-distribution to my upper body. I am debating %26amp; researching on what I should do. From hearing all the awful death or life situations from previous users has me very nervous. But then I have heard of very positive experiences. My doct seems really confident that yasmin will help with my skin %26amp; hair loss %26amp; getting my body back to normal because it blocks the male hormones that has caused me all these heartbreaking troubles for the past 2 years. Yasmin is a synthetic estrogen like compound and does not block testosterone. Estrogen or estrogen like compound compete for the same receptor sites as as the testosterone therefore diminishing it's effects. The higher the estrogen levels the less chance the testosterone will have to find receptor sites.


There are no life or death consequences but there is no magic bullet that will reverse the effects of viriliziation. Only massive doses of estrogen can even halt the effects of the testosterone so the underlying cause needs to be found.


In females testosterone usually comes from the adrenal glands and high levels are often caused by tumors to one of these glands. An adrenal tumor that causes a female to grow facial hair and upper body muscles is called a virilizing tumor. In some cases the gland can go into a state of hypertrophy.


Either way the best therapy could be the removal of one of the adrenal glands. You may be getting bad medical advice and that would require a second opinion. Often however when doctors treat patients with limited medical knowledge they can tend to treat them like children.


Having more frank discussion of your condition and therapy after getting as much knowledge on your own will be more productive. a change in the pattern or severity of migraine headaches;

Less serious side effects may include:





breast pain, tenderness, or swelling;





freckles or darkening of facial skin, increased hair growth, or loss of scalp hair;





changes in weight or appetite, swelling of your hands or feet;





problems with contact lenses;





vaginal itching or discharge; or





changes in your menstrual periods.
