Is mirena as bad as I've read it is?

I just got my mirena put in yesterday and I thought I had done my research (on the mirena website). But I wanted to look for more info and found a lot of really scary blogs on all kinds of websites about how horrible it is. Now I'm scared. I read it can cause weight gain, hair loss, ovarian cysts, deadly pregnancies, blood clots, and just horrible things. It seems to me like it has changed in the last couple of years. Does anybody have one that can tell me about your experiences? i want to give it a chance for a couple months and see if it's ok for me to keep, but I don't know if it's worth the risk.Is mirena as bad as I've read it is?
Personally I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make out.

There are some people I've heard who have had fairly horrific experiences but I also know plenty of people that loved it.

I've had mine for nearly 6 weeks and fingers crossed no issues so far!Is mirena as bad as I've read it is?
not bad at all
There are pros and cons with each contraceptive out there, and imo mirena is probably the best, if not certainly in the top 3.

It has the highest efficacy amongst all the contraceptives, along the lines of 99.99999% which means you're really really safe against pregnancy.

There is a 'theoretical' risk of ectopic pregnancy when using a mirena (or IUD) since if you did fall pregnant the embryo would not implant in the uterus but would instead site somewhere else i.e the tube. Since the risk of pregnancy is so so low anyway, this is a minor concern. Something you need to be aware of but not worry about.

The mirena releases local progesterone into the uterus to provide extra contraception, reduce or stop periods and period cramps. Progesterone can lead to a few pounds weight gain, but this is the same in ANY hormonal contraceptive, and mirena is by far the best since the total hormone released is minuscule compared to other hormonals such as the pill.

There is no link to ovarian cysts with mirena.

One important point about the mirena is that you need to be sure you dont have any STIs when it is in place. You will have had swabs to give you the all clear before it was inserted so now so long as you're in a monogamous relationship this issue will be fine. If you have any suspicion of having a new infection (increased discharge or pain) go to your doctor straight away for more swabs.

It's definitely worth trying the mirena for at least 6 months. Your periods may be irregular for that time but it will definitely get better within 6 months. It is a really great contraceptive option so it's worth sticking with it if you can.
I have had the mirena for about 1 1/2 . Yes i did experience a little weight gain,I have unusual cramps and I still get my menstrual cycle its not as bad as before but now its brownish with clots.I am now just waiting on an appointment for an ultrasound to see where the IRD is because I guess I no longer have those 2 little strings and the doctor doesn't no if its still attached to my cervix.
