Can anxiety cause hair loss?

I have had anxiety issues for a couple of months and the last few weeks it has gotten worse and I have noticed that I am losing quite a lot of hair. Around 6 times a day I have to get eyelashes out of my eyes and I was washing my hair and I ran my fingers lightly through my hair and two big clumps of hair came out with no pain or reason.

I was just wondering if my anxiety could have caused this. Can anxiety cause hair loss?
Stress can cause a multitude of problems in the human body. I have linked you to WebMD and an interesting article about hair loss.

Here is an excerpt from it:

Telogen effluvium is temporary hair loss that can occur within a few months after a high fever, a severe illness or extreme stress, and in women following childbirth.

I suggest going to see your doctor to have some blood work done. There can be other underlying causes for hair loss other than just the stress.

Best of luck to youCan anxiety cause hair loss?
Dr. Dean: The hair loss can happen after major stress or anxiety. There is a delay of three or four months, and that would put you into the range. And it can be severe; I've seen women almost lose all their hair. The good news is it comes back. It's important to recognize anxiety as a cause of hair loss.

I don't want to assume it's from the anxiety; I'd hate to see you miss a case of alopecia or male pattern baldness. All kinds of things can happen in a woman that can cause hair loss. You should see a dermatologist. The doctor will pluck some hairs out of your head, look at them under a magnifying glass and then he can tell you what's going on.
Yes hair loss is commonly stress related and is a serious issue. I suggest, before you lose anymore hair, that you try working out your anxiety issues and going to a good friend or therapist and talking things over. If you ever feel like venting or need to talk to someone feel free to email me at Emogazspyaoi@yahoo.com

I hope your issues mend and you feel better soon. I know life can get hard sometimes, but things change and times pass

Good Luck :)
Yes, probably, due to the fact that anxiety is somehow related to stress, which naturally causes hair loss.

Nevertheless, I placed below a website with doctor reviewed content focused on hair loss. I believe it might be good for your research.

Good luck!
