How does anorexia affect the APPEARANCE of the body, other than extreme weight loss?

I realize that anorexia can cause things like fainting spells and dizziness, but it's the PHYSICAL APPEARANCE that I'm interested in... If one were to become ';anorexic'; (or eat less than 600 calories a day) then would things like hair, nails, and skin be affected? Or just the shape/weight? Thanks! How does anorexia affect the APPEARANCE of the body, other than extreme weight loss?
yes usually when anorexic many physical side effects occur. The more serious consequences of anorexia include loss of normal menstrual cycles, lower levels of estrogen and weakened bones, and loss of brain tissue and muscle, including the heart muscle. Other side effects include decreased energy, low blood pressure, feeling dizzy and faint, feeling cold much of the time, constipation, decreased ability to concentrate urine resulting in more frequent urination, growth of fine hair on the arms and trunk, fatigue, lack of interest in things including sex, and depression. How does anorexia affect the APPEARANCE of the body, other than extreme weight loss?
Over time yes, nails can become brittle, can also cause hair loss, bones can become brittle from lack of calcium so this also effect teethe. Skin may dry or wrinkle. Every body is different and some don't even make it to notice any drastic negative appearance change before something internal goes wrong and become sick or die. This maybe caused by in some people when the body begins to go into starvation mode it will retain any and all water it can causing either weight gain at first or a steady plateau for some time before anything is noticed on the outside.
-hair loss

-blue nail beds (brittle nails)

-dry skin

-limp, dull hair

-hair loss

-sensitivity to the cold

-fine hair growth on the stomach and arms

-protroding bones (discomfortable when hit on something)

-bruise easily

-constipation(b/c your not getting enough fiber)

-weakness

-fatigue

-crappy attitude

-tired a lot

-body aches %26amp; pains

trust me i know these symptoms. I hope your not considering becoming anorexic either b/c it's not cool or fun, it's a disease and it's not worth even thinking about.
Yes. Alopecia (hair loss) is common. Nutritional deficiencies can cause anemia (pale skin and nail beds), bleeding gums (not enough Vitamin C), trembling (nerve damage, and because anorexics are always cold because of no subcutaneous fat), swelling of ankles due to low protein and/or kidney damage. In women, also loss of period and osteoporosis with more bone fractures and joint problems.
yea your appearance would change dramatically! your skin would become pale and splotchy depending on your age any acne you may have would get ten times worse your teeth will get brittle and so will your nails. actually your nails would be the first thing to change they would stop growing and break apart. your hair would fall out. Your body would just go into shut down mode because of not getting proper food.
The hair becomes brittle and loses its shine, as do the nails. The skin can begin to look sallow (a little yellow). If anorexia is also accompanied by bulimia, the teeth will begin to deteriorate from the stomach acid brought up by vomiting.
Your hair becomes limp and due to lack of protein loses any vibrancy. Skin becomes dull and gaunt and eyes lose their sparkle.

All because the body is lacking in vitamins, minerals and fibre,

also nails will become brittle.
If you don't get the proper nutrients that your body needs then you will suffer more than just outward appearance, you'll get sicker more often and be downright weaker. you'll also look like a zombie, which really isn't all that attractive
Hair thins and becomes limp and the starvation will cause thin hair growth all over the body, according to recovery connection.
