Why is my cat licking herself raw?

She keeps licking herself all around the back area, around the base of her tail, causing her hair loss and redness.





I have taken her to the vet numerous times, costing me at least $100 per visit with medications. She will get better, but the problem always seems to come back. I don't mind paying to fix the problem...but it's still not fixed and I can't stand to see her like this.





I have been told it's fleas, yet I NEVER see them on her or my dog (both are on Frontline). Also, my home was treated for fleas just in case.

not saying this is what it is but my cat was licking himself non stop till he was loosing hair and he was also licking us to much i took him to a vet they said it was kind of like a nervous disorder they even called it ocd. but whatever the case he eventually stopped doing it so much they said try and get his mind on other things like toys and spending more time with him. we got another cat and since then he stopped doing it. so im not really sure what was wrong but maybe it is just a nervous type of thing some cats have and try giving toys playing with the cat and gets its mind on other things. im not a vet so im not to sure about exactly whats going on i just wanted to share with you my experience with my cat licking himself to much and what we did for him. Hope this helps at all. And my other thing is always get a second opinion im not out to bash vets but i do find some that really dont care and wont help you they just want money so try and get second opinion and find a good vet that will be honest and not just out to take your money. If you brought the cat and paid for a visit and they gave you meds they should do a recheck of you pet for free and not charge you again for another follow up visit.Why is my cat licking herself raw?
