What is the cause of teen girl's balding on the back-top part of their head? (and any cures?)?

I'm a 16 year-old girl that's been having this hair issue for about 2.5 years. I noticed I barely had hair on my head when I went to a salon to get my hair cut (2.5 years ago). The lady would wash my hair and notice that a lot of my hair would fall out. She told me that I looked fine, but when she touched my head she was shocked to see how thin my hair was and how little hair I had. I'm very stressed so that may be one reason for the hair loss. (ever since stress started a year or two before the salon incident). I know that hormones have an effect, since this is the age of puberty. It is not genetic because my family has no history of balding.

I know that you should be on a diet to grow your hair. Eat fish (source of protein), drink lots of water, and use special shampoo. I was wondering if there was a way to grow lots of hair on my head and to have thick hair on my head. Also, is it the stress %26amp; hormones causing this?

HELP PLEASE(:What is the cause of teen girl's balding on the back-top part of their head? (and any cures?)?
It could be hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid, it is common. Hair loss is one of the signs as well as general tiredness or weight gain. I have a hypothyroid and take a daily medication called Synthroid. What is the cause of teen girl's balding on the back-top part of their head? (and any cures?)?
Thank-you and I'll double check if it is or isn't :]
