Did the vet you took him to do a skin scraping or any other diagnostic tests?
Is he scratching himself?
Did you recently change the kind of food he's eating?
He could have a food allergy, flea allergy, contact dermatitis, hormonal problems--the possibilities are many.
I would take him to another veterinarian and get another opinion if I were you.
It could be stress. He may be mourning over the loss of his owner and losing hair is a common sign of stress in many animals. I would just try to bond with him a lot and assure him that all is okay. I'm sorry for your loss, and happy for your gain! Pomeranians are so cute :]

My dog had a similar problem that turned out to be allegies.She was allergic to the food I was giving her.She started losong her fur then began to rip the fur out herself and biting her skin. Check with a vet or try changing her food.
If it's not just normal shedding, and that is truly all the vet said, you should find another vet. There are medical conditions that cause hair loss, such as thyroid imbalance or alopecia.
Thyroid disease %26amp; Cushing's Syndrome are 2 causes of hair loss in dogs, esp older dogs.
